Harvest festival for the whole family
The grand finale of the Urban Food exhibition will be a harvest event in the Nursery in the courtyard of the City Museum. Held in September, the event will feature plenty of activities for the whole family. Come and make your own waste flower wreath and try out harvesting with volunteers of Dodo ry.
As is always the case with the City Museum, entry to the event is free of charge. The event will only be held if allowed by the coronavirus situation.

Organised by the City Museum and the environmental organisation Dodo ry, the Urban Food exhibition will showcase Helsinki as a place for food production throughout history and in the future. Opening in the museum courtyard as part of the exhibition, the Nursery is an innovative urban garden and activity centre.
Waste flower wreath workshop
Come and make yourself a wreath bursting with colour from waste flowers. The workshop will be instructed by organic gardener and carbon footprint buster, flower artist Kaisa Viitamäki from the HÖRBS garden association.
Kaikki hyvin kasvimaalla
A frog, a dragonfly and a grub live in a vegetable garden. They have light, clouds, wind, rain – and then comes winter.
Designed for day care-aged children, the performance was inspired by the poem book Kaikki hyvin kasvimaalla (Lasten Keskus 2014) written by Jukka Itkonen and illustrated by Camilla Pentti. Come and enjoy the hustle and bustle, the power of smallness and the miracle of growth!

Mini bin workshop
At the mini bin workshop, participants turn recycled jars into beautiful pocket-sized mini bins for themselves or to be given as gifts. The mini bins are suitable for cigarette butts, used chewing gum or sweet wrappers, for example. They will last more than a decade.
