The great urban poetry night 2020
Aura Nurmi, Juho Kuusi, Kasper Salonen & open mic
The soundscapes of Helsinki and urban poetry meet in the City Museum lobby on Friday 9 October 2020! After a performance by three of the most prominent slam poets in Finland anyone can perform their Helsinki-themed poem or song when Kasper Salonen hosts an open mic session to end the night of urban poetry.
The great night of urban poetry is part of the sound art project The Routes of Helsinki. Media artist Mikko H. Haapoja, who has been documenting the sounds of our capital city throughout the 2010s, created the multichannel sound installation The Routes of Helsinki – Exceptional circumstance(s) (Poikkeustila(t)) by using urban nature experiences characteristic of the year marked by the coronavirus pandemic. The sounds can be heard throughout the lobby. Those who have signed up for the open mic in advance can also request to have Helsinki soundscapes as their background music.
