Intergenerational meeting place: Crush[ing] performance & reminiscing workshop
Helsinki City Museum is celebrating Queer History Month. You are cordially invited to the intergenerational meeting place featuring the Crush[ing] performance and reminiscing about rainbow travels and encounters. Entry to the event is free of charge.
Crush[ing]
The Crush[ing] performance is as sweet as a spring awakening. It is a love letter in motion, created together with queer folk of different ages and from different backgrounds. The performance is part of the Art for Queer Seniors project and it was premiered in the Prom Crush[ing] event in April 2024. The performance was directed by choreographer and community artist Eevi Tolvanen and director and dramaturg Minna Lund in close cooperation with the performers. Costume design and scenery were created by scenographer Una Auri, and Ava Grayson was in charge of sound design.
Queer reminiscing workshop: Travel and encounters
What was it like to travel as a member of the LGBTQAI+ community in the Nordic countries and beyond? Why did people travel or want to leave Finland? The intergenerational reminiscing workshop collects queer memories, thoughts and stories related to travel together.
The guided workshop will begin with a brief explanation of how and where queer history is stored in Finland, after which participants are guided in reminiscing and writing about the theme. Participants may allow for the texts created in the workshop to be stored in the Labour Archives. Participants may also bring along photographs related to the theme. You can also attend the workshops just to write for yourself, and you do not need to share the texts with anyone. We offer various methods of writing down memories, and we can help with the writing process.
The event is part of the programme associated with Queer History Month and the City Museum’s M/S Baltic Queers exhibition. The workshop is hosted by Kaura Raudaskoski and Niklas Koskinen from the queer history association Sateenkaarihistorian ystävät ry.
