Scent Dates
Scent Dates at the Helsinki City Museum offer you a chance to find The One! This speed dating event based on characteristic smell is related to the Smell sensory experience on the fourth floor of the Helsinki City Museum, open from 7 October 2016 to 15 January 2017.
It is known that smells and the sense of smell play a major role in choosing a partner, but what if one tries to exclude other senses? The Helsinki City Museum, together with Deittisirkus, will organise a speed dating event where you can get to know members of the opposite sex through your sense of smell. The museum’s Scent Dates is, as far as we know, the first smell-based speed dating event in Finland.
Smells have a strong impact on choosing a partner. In addition to smells, considered pleasant or unpleasant, we secrete pheromones which we cannot consciously smell but which influence our behaviour. The scent of a person with a different genotype is considered the most tempting. Consequently, women tend to choose men who are genetically as far from them as possible—provided that fragrances and the current strive to smell neutral do not override the characteristic smell and pheromones.
This time, the City Museum’s Scent Dates is targeted at those interested in the opposite sex. Men should bring along a shirt that they have used for a couple of nights without using any strong fragrances. As for women, their first contact with the men will be to smell their shirts and talk with them blindfolded. Afterwards, the daters will of course have the chance to see each other and combine appearances with what they experienced during the event. During the dating event, the museum is open only to the participants.
The dating event takes place on Saturday, 22 October, 6–9 p.m. in Helsinki City Museum, Aleksanterinkatu 16. Participation is free but requires advance enrolment at Deittisirkus’s web site. 16 pairs will make it to the event.
Note! The enrolment is binding. Participation is free but if a person enrols and does not show up, Deittisirkus will collect a EUR 50 fee.
