Afternoon Date: Art Nouveau clay tablets
Are you a pensioner, a student, a shift-worker or do you just happen to have your afternoons free? Afternoon dates offer you the chance to enjoy, relax and talk with others in the City Museum’s inspiring environment while taking part in various workshops, remembrances and briefings. The dates have a theme that changes on a monthly basis, and each date is different. Anyone with some free time on their hands in the afternoon is welcome to join. The afternoon dates are free. We look forward to seeing you there!
Every first Wednesday of the month (starting from 2 October), the afternoon dates will be held at Helsinki City Museum (Aleksanterinkatu 16). The free-of-charge afternoon dates are for everyone interested in the history of Helsinki and working with their hands. No advance registration required. The meetings have space for about 15 people. The meetings will start with a short introduction to the theme of the day and then we will delve deeper into the subject by working with our hands using various techniques.
Wed 6.11. Art Nouveau clay tablets
A brief introduction to art nouveau architecture in Helsinki.
We will make a small decorative tablet using craft clay and taking inspiration from the details of art nouveau architecture.
Owls and trolls, junipers and ferns, turrets and stone walls, pastel-coloured facades, buildings with names… In Helsinki, entire neighbourhoods are made up of art nouveau style shapes, colours and materials, popular during the fin de siècle. Even on a global scale, Helsinki is a unique art nouveau city with its astonishing 600 buildings that represent this style – a number exceeding that of Barcelona or Brussels, to name a few.
Free entry.
