Hey, grannies! A day for grandmothers and children
Come along and celebrate life across generations at the Helsinki City Museum on Sunday 5 June at 13.00–16.00.
The Helsinki City Museum’s happy event for families and grandmothers and grandchildren, in particular, is brimming with fun granny energy from patchwork squares to geraniums and from cursive handwriting to rocking chairs. The event includes fun workshops for people of all ages. In the workshops, you have the opportunity to write, draw and try your hand at crafts and enjoy a story read aloud as well as traditional outdoor games. The day celebrates people of all ages, being a grandmother and being a grandparent.
The event also doubles as the publishing party for the Mummojen kirja! (grannies’ book) work by illustrator Anne Vasko and author Reetta Niemelä. The book by the award-winning duo allows grannies to express themselves freely: share wisdom, lead a spirited life or protest against important issues. They love peace, drive Saabs or dance in the market place. First and foremost, they are independent and live a life that is unique to them. They live, love and care the way they do. The book is sold at a reduced price to all granny-minded people during the event!
Museum grandmas from the City Museum, Lukumummit ja -vaarit (reading grandmas and grandpas) as well as the Perinneleikit ry association for traditional games will also be participating in the event.
