Multi-voiced collections – panel discussion
The Being Black – Afro Finns’ Experiences exhibition looks at Helsinki through the eyes of Afro Finns. But what kinds of collections would convey the experiences of Helsinki residents with an African background to future museum visitors? What would these multi-voiced collections be like? Who decides what is ultimately recorded for the collections and on what terms? How are the rights of minorities realised in the collections; how can speaking over people be avoided?
Come have a listen and take part in the discussion. The panel will be attended by Researcher Panu Artemjeff from the University of Helsinki, Exhibition Curator Wisam Elfadl and Chief Curator Minna Sarantola-Weiss from Helsinki City Museum. The discussion will be moderated by author and journalist Maryan Abdulkarim.
The event will be part of the programme of the Being Black – Afro Finns’ Experiences exhibition.
Free entry!
Before the panel discussion, the exhibition will be presented by Wisam Elfadl at 17.30.
