The Night of the Arts at Helsinki City Museum
Indulge all your senses during Night of the Arts at the City Museum!
During the Night of the Arts, you can revel in the art of knowing it all at the Besserwisser Club and enjoy The Routes of Helsinki – Sound Landscapes performances at the City Museum. The exhibitions at the City Museum are open to the public until 10 pm, and you should take advantage of this opportunity and see memories of Helsinki in the Helsinki Bites exhibition, the Objection! exhibition open since May or the new version of the Time Machine virtual experience.
Think of the best facts about the history of Helsinki and join the Besserwisser Club! The open mic Besserwisser event is hosted by the Finnish Science Centre Heureka’s humanoid robot Pepper, who also acts as the judge. Can you outwit the robot and dazzle Pepper with your trivia? Are you an überbesserwisser when it comes to the history of Helsinki?
The Routes of Helsinki – Sound Landscapes performance examines our capital through its soundscapes and the experiences they inspire. What does the City’s sound landscape look like when translated into visual art? What does the City sound like in the urban nature themed texts of urban poet illmari?
As is always the case with the City Museum, entry to the event is free of charge.

The Routes of Helsinki – Sound Landscapes performance
In the Sound Landscapes performance, sounds of Helsinki recorded by sound artist Mikko H. Haapoja in the 2010s are interpreted by a versatile group of artists: visual artist Elina Aho-Brennan, spoken word artist Ilja ‘illmari’ Lehtinen and folk musician Amanda Kauranne.
Elina Aho-Brennan – live drawing
Mikko H. Haapoja – sound landscapes, bowed harp
illmari – urban poetry
Amanda Kauranne – vocals, live looping
Sound Landscapes, which premiered in December 2014, will be included in the Routes of Helsinki 2010–2020 exhibition (Sound Art Gallery Akusmata 5–19 September) in autumn 2019.
